Role Overview
As a Graduate Trainee in Security Engineering, you will collaborate with security engineers and threat intelligence teams to support the development, validation, and research of network intrusion detection capabilities.
Your work will directly contribute to:
- Enhancing threat detection signatures
- Researching emerging threats
- Improving internal threat intelligence processes
This role offers hands-on experience in cybersecurity research, network defense, and threat intelligence operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with threat researchers and engineers to analyze network-based attacks and develop detection logic.
- Perform packet-level analysis using tools like Wireshark or Zeek.
- Assist in developing and testing detection signatures for IPS/NIDS systems.
- Contribute to internal tool development for research workflow automation in Python.
- Conduct open-source intelligence (OSINT) gathering on emerging threats, IoCs, and TTPs.
- Support the creation of technical documentation, threat reports, and playbooks.
- Participate in technical discussions throughout the threat research and signature development lifecycle.
- Assist in simulated attack scenario creation to validate detection capabilities.
Qualifications
- Graduated or final-year student (2024/2025) with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Networking, or Cybersecurity.
- Strong understanding of Computer Networking, TCP/IP Protocol Stack, OSI Model, and Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS).
- Familiarity with Cyber Threat Intelligence, MITRE ATT&CK, and common malware delivery methods.
- Programming knowledge, preferably Python, with ability to automate analysis or write small utilities.
- Comfortable working with both Linux and Windows operating systems.
- Experience with tools like Wireshark, Suricata, Snort, tcpdump is a plus.
- Relevant coursework or experience in Network Security, Packet Analysis, or Cybersecurity is desirable.
- Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and research aptitude.
